I came across this book after listening to the podcast of the same name - but I don't remember how I discovered the podcast. Maybe I was searching for the term addiction on Spotify and came up with this: The Addict' s Guide to the Universe: a roadmap to Recovery. For anyone with a basic understanding of the English language, it's worth a look. Emily Sussman is an American therapist who works in the field of addiction, herself a recovering addict, and who is dedicated to building a peculiar vision of chemical dependency. One of the interesting aspects of his view is the idea of an alter-ego, within the person, which is the addict. your addict - is someone who obfuscates the true self ("true self") and starts to determine your behavior, through countless tricks, whose objective is always, ultimately, the substance use or behavior of choice. The focus of the podcast is to show the permanently seductive side of addiction, contrasting it with the incessant need to build Recovery, through the nourishment of the true self. To this end, she proposes a collective approach as essential - whether in a therapeutic space or in sororities: AA, NA, CA, or Marijuana Anonymous. Emily believes that the Twelve Step program is an essential tool for Recovery. Throughout the podcast episodes she builds her vision of recovery and the work of the Twelve Steps, based on her own personal experience. Here's a tip.
